Re: Cadillac Message Board
Tom,
The area Blake is talking about is a fire lane and is NOT private property, you can see the signs about it and about no overnight camping thier.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Blake this easment is absoulutly private property. Please remove your posting in referense to the 200 Sunset Point Address. Thank you.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Your right. I checked with the DNR and Sheriff's Department regarding the accidents last weekend.
Both departments attributed the accidents to thin snow (we haven't had any to speak of since) on top of ice covered trails.
SNOWMOBILERS BE WARE DURING NASF. The TRAILS are ICY. Two accidents caused the riders to sustain broken legs after hitting trees. One had to be air lifted to Grand Rapids says the news.
RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK! as always.

FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Thursday–February 4, 2010
All 4 of the groomers are running their regular and extra routes Thursday through Sunday to keep the trails in as good as shape as possible. The trails remain at about a 8 on a scale of 1-10. The RR grades have some bare spots (wind blew the snow off) but they are short and only a few of them. The tight, twisty sections in the woods are thin but snow covered. The wide open forest and seasonal roads are smooth, snow covered ice and flat. ALL trails are very rideable and will not damage the sleds. Use extreme caution this weekend due to all of the ice (there were at least 3 accidents last weekend) and all of families and large groups that will be on the trails Friday-Sunday.
The route from Lake Mitchell’s west end to Pole Road (Hemlock Park) is CLOSED. The suggested routes out of the Cadillac "West" area is to follow the trail along M-115 south east to 44Rd and then the White Pine Trail south, OR go west along M-55, (follow the trail signs), cross M-55 at the Gas Station and follow the signs along Pole Road and 27 Rd to the start of the groomed trail. The 2nd route is through a residential area: Go Slow and RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Snow gauge*: 4 inches

I just saw a Mortgage Foreclosure notice for Coyote Crossing in the Cadillac News. Does anyone know if they are open for business?
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Yes. Pray for some white fluffy stuff.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
thank you blake s, I asked a reasonable question about the recently closed hemlock boat access and it has now finally been addressed and answered! I'm glad we were able to have the discussion despite the avid objections of a few "old comers". It's "new comers" (who still own snowmobiles), like us that will continue to support our favorite winter activity! I'll help spread the word on the alternate route. see you at NASF!
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Attention NASF snowmobilers.
In reference to hemlock park being closed. Here is what I have found out with some help from deputy sanburn from the wexford county sheriff's department and some research on my own.
According to deputy sanburn, we should be able to use the Cherry Grove Township park/boat launch (public) located basically at the intersection of S 33 Rd and Sunset Point Dr. He informed me that it is located approximately 1/2 mile NE of Hemlock Campground boat launch along the southern shoreline of Lk. Mitchell. Basically travel around Sunset Point if coming from Hemlock boat launch. After you exit the lake, turn right (south) on S 33 Rd. Travel approximately 1/2 mile along S 33 Rd to Pole/40 1/2 Rd. Turn right (west) and travel approximately 1/3 mile and you will be at the pole/40 1/2 rd gate to Hemlock Campground. If you ask me, this is easiest and is NOT a huge inconvenience. This way, you do not have to travel through the residential area of pole rd where it is almost always scrapped down to the bare blacktop and you won't get a $250.00 federal ticket.
On my own time, I also looked at other routes. Here is what I found.
From Hemlock Campground boat launch, travel along the southern shoreline toward the east and you will see an easement with gray colored log fence along both sides. It is actually located next to 200 Sunset Point Dr (I believe that to be the address). The easement is approximately .2 miles from Hemlock. Exit through the easement and turn left on Sunset Point Dr. Travel to S 33 Rd and follow above directions.
Or you can exit Lake Mitchell near a boat launch located in a small bay/cove located near S 33 1/2 Rd and N Franke Ln. Travel southbound on S 33 1/2 Rd to Pole/40 1/2 Rd. Turn right (west) and go toward Hemlock park. NOTE: I think that launch may be posted as private. Not sure.
All in all, I think the alternate route deputy sanburn told me about is best and easiest.
Have a great time at NASF.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Okay, however, I would urge you and Northern Michigan Snowmobile, etc.... to monitor extremely closely what is being posted on this site and it's content. The term DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER comes to mind when reading some of the comments posted previously. With that said, those posting accusations of libel and the administrators of this blog that allow such accusations to be posted on the net can also be held responsible for libel in a court of law.
Enough about that.
Sounds like the campground closure is creating a snafu. Hope we can get an alternative route.
Sincerely,
Robert Bise
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Thanks for the info. I will look at some maps and figure out a route.

FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Tuesday--February 2, 2010
The trails remain in great shape and it looks like they could remain that way throughout the week if our weather pattern stays the course. Temperatures remain below freezing and the snow machine spits out snow every now and then but not great accumulation is forecasted. At least three groomers are out every day with some groomers doing two routes each day.
Sure hope you are headed this way for the North American Snow Festival scheduled to start Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with Opening Ceremonies at the Armory immediately followed by the Chili Cook-Off. For more details about the event check out the NASF link.
The trails will be busy this weekend so keep safety and fun foremost on your mind as you enjoy this special weekend in the Cadillac area.
Snow gauge*: 3 1/4 inches
Re: Cadillac Message Board
I have lived in Cadillac, and near the Mis-Kal trail between Lake City and Kalkaska. I am not aware of a connecting trail, but would like to see this, especially since the Mis-Kal connects to Mackinaw.
You would need to map out secondary (dirt) roads between Mesick and the snowmobile bridge over the Manistee river just north of Manton. There is another bridge over the Manistee south of Kingsley. From Cadillac, you can map out dirt roads past Meawataka (spelling?), heading north to Manton. Someone living in Manton may be able to answer this better. I hope this helps. WD
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Robert --- There are new elements to the latest discussion which we can perhaps discuss in a positive way. It seems some folks are having problems getting in and out of Cadillac West. If folks would like post information here about how to get in and out of Cadillac West (and how to avoid trouble) I'll be happy to develop an online guide to help newcomers understand how to do this and what to look out for. (Thanks Blake S for the informative post below.) And thanks in advance to anyone who helps out on this.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Here's a question from the Fan of the Cadillac Trails page on Facebook. If anyone has some suggestions please post them here and I'll pass the information along.
Does anyone have any good ideas / routes to meet some friends for lunch somewhere between Cadillac and Kalkaska? I have a group coming from Irons, and they have a group starting in Kalkaska. I thought somewhere NE of Mesick would work, but don't know the options up that way. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
I've been posting on the site for years and I'm amazed at all the 'newcomers' all of a sudden this year. All comments are welcome of course but I can't believe the negativity. I'm sure the trails are being policed by the dnr and police but seriously, are they running out from the woods and chasing and screaming at you...? doubt it
All of a sudden residents of Cadillac are posting, did you guys just find this blog? I don't remember some of you posting positive things over the years
I'm with Turtleheadking, I've been snowmobiling Cadillac for years and have always felt welcome to the area. Bottom line, follow the speed limit on Pole Road, Stay off Private Property and follow the rules
Winter promotions does an excellent job keeping the trails smooth and rideable. If you feel you can do a better job, volunteer your time. Last time I looked @ the WP web page, none of these volunteers owned a local business to benefit from the trail system, they do it because they love the sport
If you honestly feel you have an honest problem with the law enforcement, trail system or local business, call the chamber of commerce and visitors bureau and talk to them, I'm sure your complaint will be addressed
Rant over, be safe on the trails and do the snow dance

Well, so much for the end of the discussion on police enforcement. Whoever is responsible for this blog apparently talks out of one end and then the other the next week.
It is getting old, the complaining about the laws and such.
Anyone can post on this blog. There is no accountability or REAL names or email addresses needed. Many posts seem to be suspicious in different ways. I use to enjoy reading the posts people would add, however, things are a changing so it seems.
Will be interesting to see if NORTH GUIDE stands by their previous statement.

Re: Cadillac Message Board
Hi folks,
Went snowmobiling on the Cadillac trail system this past weekend. Had a great time. The trails do need more snow. However, the groomers did their best to pull snow toward the middle and spread out. Good job.
My group and I did rid to Hemlock park via Lake Mitchell. We did observe a large no snowmobiling sign posted at the boat launch. It is very obvious. While at the lake, we did talk with a law enforcement officer. He informed us that indeed the campground is closed as the sign indicates. He was awfully nice to us. He informed us that there is a nearby (1/2 mile) Cherry Grove Township park/boat launch toward the NE of Hemlock that we could use to avoid the residential part of pole rd. He referred to the township park as Sunset Point area. After exiting the lake at the 'sunset park' Cherry Grove Township boat launch, we traveled approximately 1/2 mile south on S 33 Rd to Pole/40 1/2 Rd. Turned right (west) and traveled .3 miles to Hemlock Park.
The 'detour' was VERY easy thanks to the directions given by the officer.
Imagine that, he didn't 'jump' out at us nor did he yell or attempt to rip up our map.
I must thank the law enforcement officer for his presence and directions.
Take care all,

Cadillac Area Trail Report - Cadillac Trails - 01/28
FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Thursday–January 28, 2010
The groomers are rolling. Just received the following message from our Trail Coordinator: "We have started up grooming again!!!!! The Tucker headed for Mesick this morning and finding 10"+ in some areas. It is grooming up great. The 7920 and 8120 will be headed out with in a couple of hours. The 8120 is headed to the Pine River and Bristol, while the 7920 will do #6 west and #637 tonight, and then the east side trails tomorrow morning."
Snow gauge*: 4 inches–lots of blowing and drifting in the area. Snow gauge doesn’t reflect this.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
How's the Snow up there?? Can we talk about something else?
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Hi all, I was on lake mitchell and tried to drive off hemlock park to pole road and there is a orange plastic fence and a no snowmobiling sign up near the closed gate- has this route to the snowmobile trails been closed? How do you get from the lake to the trails now?
Re: Cadillac Message Board
definitely need a lot of fresh powder! Went for an hour ride this morning. Machine overheated due to not enough snow being picked up by the track and thrown onto the exchange. Also burned through a set of sliders. But perhaps that was because I was haulin' through the trails and not so much the snow conditions. A bit snirty!
Re: Cadillac Message Board
Saw that post as well. Wonder if there is any truth to it? Perhaps.
Re: Cadillac Message Board
I heard that if Cadillac does not get a good amount of snow in the next week or two that the NASF will not happen. Is this true? My family and I were planning a trip up there for that weekend, however, if it is canceled, we will not be coming.
This cancellation was posted on the hardcoresledder.com website

Cadillac / Baldwin Area Trail Report - Wolf Lake Motel and Resort - 01/20
Hi Everyone, We did have a warm up on Monday, but it’s been colder today, but we need more snow. There are spring like conditions right now, so as long as you have realistic expectations while you’re out there, you will have a decent ride , but do expect some snirt and dirt and black top roads are bare. Not too sure on the forecast as of yet, because they have changed it 5 time today, I will see what tomorrow brings first and will let you know. When the temps stay above freezing and the trails are slushy, I doubt that any grooming will continue until it gets colder and more snow. One thing that is nice around here, we are in the middle of 6 different grooming clubs, (which we are members of 4), if one isn’t grooming, one of the other Clubs are grooming and we have maps right in the Office. Plus we are in the middle of one of the largest ORV trail systems in the state, so if the snow isn’t that great for snowmobiling, bring your ORV up and ride over 200 miles of ORV trails. Don’t worry winter isn’t over for snowmobiling, but a winter ORV ride can be a blast too. If you don’t have a snowmobile or yours is broken, no problem, WE HAVE ON-SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS right here at the Resort. There is good snow in the woods, so two tracken and seasonal roads are a blast right now. (Which there are tons of). 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm
Rooms and ON-SITE Snowmobile Rentals are available. Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails.

A collection of photos from Netride 1999 in Cadillac, Michigan. Anyone out there remember the Cadillac Netrides at the turn of the century?
